For the Love of Trees

Supporting London’s Urban Forests

Did you know that, if you call London home, you live in one of the greenest cities on Earth? The English Capital is home to over 8.1 million trees – that’s one for every person who lives there!

Trees and woodlands make London a more attractive place and also help combat the effects of climate change. Since 2010, the Greater London Authority and its partners have planted over 400,000 trees. However, the Mayor of London wants the city to go further, so has pledged to increase the tree canopy cover from 20% to 25%, to help ensure our capital remains resilient to climatic change.

Unilever is partnering with the Mayor of London to launch the new campaign: FOR THE LOVE OF TREES – LONDON. The campaign will see an additional 40,000 trees planted over the next year. Trees for Cities will plant 20,000 trees to create wonderful urban woodland in Ealing, filled with thousands of fruit trees and shrubs. Then a further 20,000 distributed to London schools to support local tree planting efforts by young people.

Having plenty of trees in London benefits everyone and helps the city adapt to climate change by cleaning the air, providing natural flood defences and providing a habitat for wildlife. It’s the same story throughout the world: the more trees the better.

If you care about trees there’s lots you can do to get involved in London and beyond. Why not start today, for the love of trees?

Here are some ways you can help:

- Sign our pledge to protect one million trees in two of the world’s most threatened forest areas.

- Make a donation to help children plant trees, educating and inspiring them about their importance.

- Volunteer at a planting day.

- Install Trees for Cities' toolbar. Every time you shop online, the retailer will make a donation.

- Find out why brightFuture ambassador Kate Humble thinks it’s important to stay in touch with the great outdoors.

- Visit Trees for Cities and get involved in Ealing’s mass tree planting!

By coming together, we can help increase the number of trees in our city and help create bright future. So what’s stopping you? Get involved and tell us what you’re up to by clicking here.
