Helping Create a Street Party
Fit for a Queen
On Sunday, June 12th 2016, The Mall was the setting for its largest ever street party to mark The Queen’s 90th birthday and recognition of her patronage of more than 600 charities and organisations worldwide. With 10,000 guests in attendance, including The Queen herself, The Patron’s Lunch provided an unforgettable climax to a fantastic weekend of celebrations.
Her Majesty was joined by the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry for a traditional hamper-style lunch. As the producers of some of the nation’s favourite tea time essentials, we made sure that everyone on the Mall had plenty of PG Tips, while our team of I’M WALL’S young entrepreneurs brought the sunshine despite the weather, by providing a selection of traditional British ice creams. We also had a host of Unilever volunteers who helped ensure the event ran like clockwork. Watch the film above to take a look at the best bits from a party to remember.
At Unilever, we’ve been serving street parties for over 90 years. We’re delighted to have been part of the celebrations recognising Her Majesty’s incredible contribution and service to British society over the course of her 63-year reign. We’re proud to be able to serve the British public – something we've been doing from as far back as 1885, making us one of the country’s longest-serving makers of household essentials – and we’ve enjoyed a Royal connection throughout our history.
Our brands Persil, Colman’s, Hellmann’s and Stork each hold a Royal Warrant of Appointment and the Queen has twice visited our Port Sunlight soap factory in Liverpool’s Merseyside.
The Queen’s charitable work is an inspiration – in Britain and beyond. We hope that people around the country will continue to come together to not only celebrate Her Majesty’s 90th birthday with a street party of their own, but also to take the opportunity to raise money or work for charities that hold a special place in their community.
If you missed the event, or simply want to carry on celebrating, it’s not too late to throw your very own party, fit for a Queen.
