Raise a Cuppa
Fit for Royal-Tea
For the Queen’s 90th birthday, only a proper British celebration will do. It doesn’t get more British than toasting Her Majesty with a steaming hot cup of PG tips tea, and we’re ready to raise our cups high in the air!
On Sunday 12th June, thousands of people will join together for one of the biggest street parties in history and toast Her Majesty The Queen. Unilever is a proud Official Partner to The Patron’s Lunch, which takes place outside Buckingham Palace on The Mall in London, and we’ll be there to make sure everyone has a hot brew for the occasion.
Our brand PG tips is built on a strong British tradition, and we’re excited to be amongst the 10,000 guests attending the event. Every guest on The Mall will get to enjoy a lovely cuppa and receive a special limited edition teacup and saucer from PG tips in honour of Her Majesty The Queen.
PG tips has been producing tea since 1869 when founder Arthur Brooke opened his first shop in Manchester and today, the Trafford factory is the largest tea factory in the world, producing 10 billion tea bags a year. PG tips is dedicated to reducing the impact of our tea on the environment through sustainable initiatives and are proud to have been the first major UK tea brand to sell fully Rainforest Alliance certified black and green teas. This year, we found a way to deliver great taste with less waste. By reducing the tea in bags by just 0.2g, we have reduced waste to landfill by 1,000 tonnes a year. That’s the equivalent of three Boeing 747s!
The Patron’s Lunch aims to inspire people up and down the country to embrace its themes of charity, community and celebration by throwing their own street parties.
Here are some ways to keep your street par-tea green:
- Recycle or compost all your tea bags (even fruit, herbal, and green tea ranges). Put the contents of the used tea bag on your compost heap or see if your local council provides food waste bins.
- Create your own tea-based party treats with PG tips. Download our recipe guide to give a luxury twist to cupcakes with PG Tips Earl Grey. Two tea bags are all that’s needed to add a decidedly royal flavour to 20 cupcakes. Or how about our tea-based cocktail recipe?
- Read our tips on how to throw a street party – the sustainable way - that brings your community together and helps create a bright future.
